Pirali (ISMO, UPSud)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This project aims at building high-resolution spectroscopic data bases for open-shell molecules of astrophysical significance. Spectroscopic results are still missing for such molecules because they are experimentally and theoretically more difficult to deal with than closed-shell molecules. These data bases should allow us to interpret radio astrophysical spectra and in some cases to carry out their first detection in the interstellar media. The present project includes experimental developments and theoretical research. One of the target molecules is the non-rigid open-shell radical CH<sub>2<\/sub>OH<sup>\u2022<\/sup>, which was recently detected in the lab.<strong>Results:<\/strong>\u00a0Our sub-millimeter-wave spectrometer has been upgraded and the spectra of several new molecules could be observed for the first time including ethynethiol (HCCSH) which is a metastable isomer of thioketene.With the help of Jean-Christophe Loison (ISM, Bordeaux), we built a cell to produce the<a>\u00a0CH<sub>2<\/sub>OH<sup>\u2022<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0and CH<sub>3<\/sub>O<sup>\u2022<\/sup>\u00a0radicals by H atom abstraction, using methanol and atomic fluorine as precursors. This cell, shown on the left panel of the figure below, is 150\u00a0cm long and atomic fluorine, produced by a 2450\u00a0MHz microwave discharge, is injected through several holes so as to optimize radical production. The experimental signal of CH<sub>2<\/sub>OH<a><sup>\u2022<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0was optimized varying discharge and gas flux conditions. The sub-millimeter-wave spectrum recorded near 386610 MHz is shown on the right panel of the figure below. The best signal is obtained with two injectors as the hyperfine structure of the\u00a0<em>J\u00a0<\/em>= 8.5\u21907.5 transition can then clearly be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-3\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"401\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.labex-palm.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3911\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.labex-palm.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-5.png 401w, https:\/\/www.labex-palm.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-5-300x187.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"399\" height=\"316\" src=\"https:\/\/www.labex-palm.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3914\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.labex-palm.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-6.png 399w, https:\/\/www.labex-palm.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/image-6-300x238.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow\">\n<p>A major result has since been obtained with this new experimental setup as more than two hundred new transitions of CH<sub>2<\/sub>OH<a><sup>\u2022<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0could be recorded and assigned in terms of rotational-spin quantum numbers.Theoretical results concerning the potential energy surface of CH<sub>2<\/sub>OH<a><sup>\u2022<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0were also obtained. It displays 8 saddle points including four equivalent\u00a0<em>C<\/em><sub>1<\/sub>\u00a0symmetry minima, two local maxima, and two\u00a0<em>C<\/em><sub>2v<\/sub>\u00a0absolute maxima. The 2 lowest lying vibrational states display tunneling splittings of 0.035\u00a0\u00e0\u00a044.809cm<sup>-1<\/sup>.
